A Whale of a Tale

Grayson by Lynne Cox (Knopf, 2006, 160pp.)

At age 17, long-distance swimmer Lynne Cox found herself being followed by a baby whale while training one morning in the Pacific ocean. But where was its mother? Cox schools readers in self-confidence and discipline as she describes her efforts to help the aptly named “Grayson” find his mama. A sweet, inspirational tale of love and determination, that might annoy more stoic readers with its tearjerker tendencies. Recommended for Ages 12-14.
